Brides and Botox: Everything You Need to Know About Getting Injections Before Your Big Day

Ahhh, wedding season. Love is in the air, wedding bells are ringing and Botulinum Toxin Type A is on the agenda. What’s that, you ask? We’re talking Botox®. The temporary injectable wrinkle reducer relaxes facial muscles to diminish the appearance of fine lines — and prevent new ones from popping up.

Whether they have pesky lines or are looking for a preventative measure against wrinkles, more and more brides are implementing neurotoxins like Botox® and Dysport® into their pre-wedding beauty regimen. In fact, in a 2018 study by RealSelf.com, the most popular procedures during wedding season were ranked based on a year’s worth of reviews. Botox® came in at No. 3, just behind Invisalign® and CoolSculpting®.

And it’s not just brides. Injectable wrinkle reducers have become so popular over the past decade that last year, 7.23 million procedures were performed, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. It was the most popular minimally invasive procedure performed in 2017, up 2 percent from 2016.

It’s no wonder. Everyone wants a flawless, wrinkle-free face, especially when you think about those wedding photos that will last a lifetime. But are injectable wrinkle reducers right for you as a bride? We have some tips:

DO Understand Your Goals

What kind of wrinkles are you hoping to get rid of? Botox® and Dysport® are a better choice for dynamic wrinkles, which happen when you’re making an expression or moving your face. These wrinkles are typically positioned in forehead or around the eyes,  and Botox® and Dysport® can reduce their motion and visibility.

Or are you looking to provide volume and fill static wrinkles, the ones that are still visible even when your face is relaxed? If that’s what you’re hoping for, we might suggest fillers instead.

Understanding your concerns, expectations and goals for your treatment is important. Then, schedule an appointment with an experienced injector to talk through your questions, wedding schedule and timeline. Which leads us to …

DO Plan Well in Advance

If you’ve never received Botox® or Dysport® before, we highly recommend a trial period at least six months prior to your wedding. That way, you can test out the treatment and make sure you’re in love with the results. If you’re not, that will give the Botox® or Dysport® time for fade before the big day.

After that, we recommend coming back in for a touchup four to six weeks before the wedding, depending on when the initial treatment was.

DO Find a Qualified Injector

Choosing your injector is the most important decision you can make here. An experienced injector will not only make you look natural on your wedding day, but will also enhance your most beautiful features. Choosing an inexperienced or otherwise unqualified injector is a risk that certainly should not be taken ahead of your most important day.

Remember: it’s your face. Areas such as your nose, chin and lips are sensitive, and even the most conservative changes should only be performed by experts as these areas affect your expression and smile.

DO Ask Questions

Before your consultation, do your research so you know what to look for. Bring a list of questions with you. Not sure what to ask? Jot down these questions before you go so you feel confident about your decision.

No skincare regimen will ever fully take care of those deep lines, and for brides-to-be, Botox® or Dysport® can be a fantastic and relatively immediate fix (full results within a week) for photo-ready skin. Both Botox® and Dysport® can soften deep lines and smooth your skin, and both have a 95-96 percent “Worth It” rating on RealSelf.com, which is one of the site’s highest.
